Xpeng Plans New Model Launch at GIIAS 2026: P7 and GX Under Consideration
BOGOR, KOMPAS.com - Following the official launch of the locally assembled G6 Pro crossover in Purwakarta, West Java, Xpeng Indonesia appears determined to maintain momentum in expanding its market penetration.
The Chinese electric vehicle brand has confirmed plans to introduce new models to the domestic automotive market soon.
Xpeng Indonesia CEO Iki Wibowo strongly indicated that the company is preparing to unveil a new model at the Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) 2026.
“GIIAS (2026) will definitely have (new cars). At least one (model),” Wibowo said in Bogor on Saturday (23/5/2026).
This move has sparked curiosity about which additional models will be brought to Indonesia. Given Xpeng’s extensive global portfolio, the two models under speculation are the smart premium sedan Xpeng P7 and their latest flagship SUV, the Xpeng GX.
These vehicles were previously displayed at IIMS 2026 for market testing, receiving highly positive responses from visitors.
However, Wibowo explained that Indonesian consumers will have to wait longer to purchase the premium electric sedan, as the main hurdle is the lack of right-hand drive configuration from the parent manufacturer.
“The P7 currently does not have a right-hand drive production version. If right-hand drive becomes available, we will reassess the market potential. So far, the reception at various events has been quite good. Hopefully, once right-hand drive is available, we will study the possibility again,” Wibowo stated.
Regarding the potential introduction of the Xpeng GX to the domestic market, Wibowo confirmed that the primary parameter for launching new models is the global availability of right-hand drive variants.
Currently, Xpeng’s global product line with right-hand drive options remains very limited.
“So far, only the X9 and G6 have right-hand drive versions. As long as it’s available, we will consider it,” he added.
In other words, the opportunity for the Xpeng GX and other cutting-edge models to enter the Indonesian market remains wide open in the future, provided that cumulative regional market volume becomes economically viable for the global parent company to produce right-hand drive versions.
