Xpeng Indonesia responds to global X9 recall over air suspension issue

Xpeng Indonesia has spoken out regarding the global recall of tens of thousands of X9 units due to air suspension systems failing to operate optimally amid extreme heat.

Xpeng Indonesia VP Marketing Hari Arifianto said the company is still coordinating with Xpeng Global to ascertain which production batches could potentially be affected by the issue.

“We are still investigating the air suspension together with our colleagues at Xpeng Global. Whether or not it is affected by the air suspension recall,” Hari said on the sidelines of the New Xpeng X9 media drive in Tangerang on Monday.

He added that the products available in Indonesia differ from those in the global market because they are locally assembled. As such, the units in Indonesia have a different production status from those in the Chinese market.

“If affected, the parts will be replaced immediately before production. We are still checking which production batch is actually involved,” he said.

Hari explained that the air suspension problem is linked to extreme heat conditions. The fault can cause the suspension system to be unable to lift the vehicle back to its normal position.

Although the inspection is still ongoing, Xpeng Indonesia is asking X9 owners who experience any suspension system issues to report them promptly to the official service network.

According to Hari, customers can lodge complaints through customer service or Xpeng dealers so that further inspection can be carried out.

“If any customer feels there is a suspension problem, we will coordinate quickly. They can contact the call centre or their dealer,” Hari said.

Xpeng Indonesia has not yet stated whether all or some of the units already on the road in the country are included in the recall scope related to the air suspension issue.

CarnewsChina previously reported that the recall was carried out following a wave of complaints from owners, particularly in regions such as Chongqing, where extreme heat waves coincided with reports of sudden chassis damage.

In an earlier response to the issue, Xpeng customer service attributed some warnings to a “thermal protection” mode, noting that frequent height adjustments in high temperatures could cause the compressor to overheat.

However, the official recall now acknowledges a hardware defect related to air tightness, rather than merely thermal protection.
