Xpeng Electric Cars Still on a Three-Month Backorder
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Xpeng’s electric cars, namely the MPV X9 and the SUV G6, are still on backorder. Previously, the wait for delivery to customers could exceed three months, but the pace is now being accelerated to shorten it.
Hari Arifianto, VP Marketing of Xpeng Indonesia, said that orders for both models are still on backorder, but the waiting time has shortened compared with before.
‘Still on backorder, but the backorder time has reduced. It wasn’t like before when it could be more than three months,’ Hari told reporters in Jakarta on Thursday (5 March 2026).
He explained this is due to limited production line capacity.
‘The production line must operate by shifts due to capacity limits. So we prioritise the X9 first; when the X9 began shifting to G6 production at the end of 2025, the shift started,’ Hari explained.
‘Customers who ordered the G6 can already start receiving their G6. Not only the X9 will be seen on the road, Insha Allah the G6 will also start to appear,’ he said.
Hari explained that the sales mix of Xpeng models between X9 and G6 is now roughly balanced. Initially at launch, 80% of customers preferred the X9, G6 only 20%.
‘Now it’s almost 50-50. This is what makes us happy. It means buyers are not only first adopters, who are usually financially strong, but also buyers looking for a second car as an alternative,’ Hari said.
According to Hari, X9 buyers are mostly customers who already own many cars but want to try something new. But given the growing interest in G6, the customer base is broadening across segments.
