XLSmart SIM registration procedure for foreign nationals after biometric policy takes effect
XLSmart has explained the SIM card registration mechanism for foreign tourists wishing to use mobile services while in Indonesia, after the registration policy using biometric verification comes into effect on 1 July. Group Head Corporate Communications & Sustainability XLSmart Reza Mirza said foreign tourists can still obtain local SIM cards with a registration procedure that has been adjusted to government regulations. “XLSmart welcomes foreign tourists and ensures they can still enjoy connectivity services while in Indonesia with a clear registration mechanism,” Reza said on Friday. According to him, there is a difference in the registration mechanism between Indonesian citizens and foreign nationals. Foreign tourists or foreign nationals use a valid passport or a valid residence permit document such as a Limited Stay Permit Card (KITAS) or Permanent Stay Permit Card (KITAP). “Registration is done at physical outlets with the assistance of staff and is not available independently online,” he said. Reza explained that for tourists visiting for a short term, a valid passport is sufficient to register a SIM card. During the registration process, outlet staff will record a number of customer data, including full name, identity number on the document, nationality, and place and date of birth. He added that the limit on mobile number ownership also applies to foreign national customers. Each identity is allowed to have a maximum of three prepaid numbers per operator. Reza confirmed that the company has prepared services for foreign tourists through a network of outlets spread across various regions of Indonesia, including major tourist destination areas. “XLSmart ensures the process for foreign nationals remains fast and friendly through the service of trained staff at outlets spread across various cities, including in major tourist destinations,” he said.
