Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Along with two other operators, XLSMART has secured frequencies in the 700 MHz and 2.6 GHz bands. The merged entity of XL Axiata and Smartfren confirmed it will strengthen its 4G and 5G service capacity. XLSMART also confirmed it will fulfil the established development obligations. President Director & CEO of XLSMART Rajeev Sethi assured that customers will enjoy a faster, more stable internet experience across more areas. “This trust is a great mandate for XLSMART. We will utilise the new spectrum allocation to deliver a wider, more reliable, and high-quality network so that businesses, schools, and public services across Indonesia can enjoy an improved digital experience. We will fulfil all development obligations set out in the selection process in a timely manner. With this spectrum, we want to ensure more customers can enjoy a faster, more stable internet experience in more areas of Indonesia,” Sethi explained in an official statement on Wednesday (22/7/2026). The official statement detailed that the 700 MHz frequency has characteristics of wide coverage and better signal penetration. Thus, this spectrum will be effective for expanding service coverage, particularly for rural areas, remote regions, and areas that are not yet optimally served. Furthermore, the 700 MHz band will accelerate the equitable distribution of digital access for communities in various parts of Indonesia. For the 2.6 GHz band, the spectrum will increase network capacity, delivering a faster, more stable, and higher-quality internet experience, especially in areas with high data traffic demands. The development of 5G will also be supported more rapidly, in line with the increasing public need for digital services that require greater network capacity. Both spectrums can also serve as an investment strategy to support the growth of Indonesia’s digital economy, through improving connectivity quality for the public, MSMEs, the business world, and the public sector. Furthermore, it can serve as an important foundation for anticipating the growth in customer data traffic, which increases year on year, while maintaining service quality. The spectrum will also have an impact on XLSMART’s merger by accelerating network integration optimisation. It is hoped that customers will enjoy increasingly better service quality, greater capacity, and a more consistent digital experience. For information, XLSMART obtained a 30 MHz block (2x15 MHz) in the 700 MHz band for Rp 1.060 trillion. For the 2.6 GHz band, the company secured 80 MHz at a price of Rp 545.8 billion.
