Jakarta – XLSmart predicts a surge in telecommunications traffic of up to 30 per cent during the extended Eid 2026 holiday period.

Merza Fachys, Director and Chief Regulatory Officer of XLSmart, explained that the surge is driven by the increased number of public holidays combined with the work-from-anywhere (WFA) trend during the Eid break. “We expect this year to see a sharper increase because there are more holidays plus the WFA trend. We predict the traffic surge will be between 30 per cent, with peak periods typically occurring between three days before and three days after Eid,” Merza said when met in South Jakarta on Friday.

To manage the anticipated surge, XLSmart is strengthening its network across 500 strategic locations and points of interest, including areas frequented by holiday travellers, tourist destinations, railway stations, airports, and terminals. The company is also preparing approximately 20 service posts along migration routes.

As part of the ongoing network integration process, XLSmart is implementing significant capacity enhancements throughout the migration routes and tourist areas. The company operates more than 100 Mobile Base Transceiver Stations (MBTS) across various regions, including approximately 60 fifth-generation (5G) MBTS.

In areas that are popular holiday destinations, network utilisation is projected to reach 60–70 per cent. Major cities in Central and East Java are expected to experience significant traffic increases, particularly along migration routes and in tourist areas. XLSmart anticipates traffic growth across nearly all regions, with Java remaining the primary contributor to increased traffic.

XLSmart’s network, supported by artificial intelligence (AI) adoption, can identify traffic surges in real time and implement solutions to balance dynamic traffic patterns. This technology enables the system to automatically monitor any degradation in service quality and rebalance capacity during traffic peaks.

XLSmart’s Network Operations Centre (NOC) will operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week to monitor network conditions, with field teams standing ready to respond immediately to any disruptions. From its headquarters, XLSmart monitors network conditions across all operational areas through its Customer Experience & Service Operation Centre (CESOC) facility.

XLSmart continues to coordinate with relevant stakeholders, including the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs, to ensure smooth network operations during Ramadan and Eid 2026.
