XLSmart Massively Deploys 5G, Aiming to Place Indonesian Internet Services in Asia's Top 3

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Following widespread appreciation for its 5G connectivity performance, PT XLSmart Telecom Sejahtera Tbk (XLSmart) is now aspiring to ensure that Indonesia’s internet services rank among the top three in Asia in terms of speed and quality.

One step towards achieving this is by increasing the number of 5G service points in Indonesia, which is expected to reach 101 locations by the end of 2026.

“It may have been widely reported last year that Indonesia’s ranking (for internet speed and quality) was low. XLSmart is determined to improve Indonesia’s ranking. At the very least, we want to move from the bottom of the rankings in Asia to a mid-level position. We hope to eventually reach the top three,” said Merza Fachys, Director and Chief Regulatory Officer of XLSmart, during the XLSmart 2026 Media Gathering Update event in Surabaya on Friday.

Through the same event, XL also received several accolades, including Best 5G Network in Indonesia 2026, Fastest 5G in Indonesia 2026, and Best 5G Video Experience in Indonesia 2026.

Merza noted that these positive results demonstrate that the company’s digital connectivity expansion measures are aligned with the national digital transformation vision.

Discussing the 5G connectivity expansion plans, XLSmart initially targeted the expansion of new 5G connectivity to 88 locations in Indonesia in 2026. If this expansion is fully realised, it is projected that 5G services could serve 50 per cent of the national population.

However, after seeing satisfactory results and having secured new spectrum slots, XLSmart is committed to increasing the number of 5G connectivity expansion points to reach 101 locations.

Shurish expressed hope that the company’s upcoming expansion will continue to provide high-quality services, ensuring that the titles won as a 5G connectivity provider this year can be maintained.
