XLSmart Coordinates with National Police to Uncover BTS Module Theft

XLSmart is coordinating with the Indonesian National Police to uncover the perpetrators behind the theft of base transceiver station (BTS) modules from the company’s telecommunications infrastructure in several regions across Indonesia. Group Head Corporate Communications & Sustainability at XLSmart, Reza Mirza, stated on Tuesday that thieves generally target the latest modules on BTS units. According to him, XLSmart and its corporate partners have reported cases of telecommunications equipment theft to local police. As the number of cases and their impact increased, the company coordinated with the Mobile Investigation Unit of the Criminal Investigation Agency (Resmob Bareskrim) of the National Police to accelerate the investigation. ‘Resmob Bareskrim’s jurisdiction covers the entire territory of the Republic of Indonesia, so it is better able to handle the investigation without limited jurisdiction,’ Reza said. Head of the Mobile Investigation Unit of Bareskrim Polri, Commissioner Teuku Arsya Khadafi, said the investigation began with a report from PT XLSmart regarding the loss of BTS modules in several Indonesian regions. ‘The loss of equipment caused disruptions to telecommunications services, leaving thousands of customers unable to use cellular and internet services,’ Arsya said. In this case, police have named four suspects, consisting of two thieves, one fence, and one collector who also acted as the shipper. According to Arsya, the perpetrators carried out their actions by disguising themselves as BTS tower installation technicians to dismantle and steal the modules. As a result of the suspects’ actions, PT XLSmart suffered losses of around Rp5 billion and telecommunications services in several parts of Indonesia were disrupted.
