XLSmart Coordinates with National Police to Uncover BTS Module Theft

Jakarta (ANTARA) - XLSmart is coordinating with the National Police (Polri) to uncover those responsible for the theft of modules from the company’s base transceiver station (BTS) telecommunications infrastructure in several regions of Indonesia.

Group Head of Corporate Communications & Sustainability at XLSmart, Reza Mirza, told ANTARA on Tuesday that thieves of telecommunications equipment generally target the latest modules on BTS towers.

According to him, XLSmart and its company partners have reported cases of telecommunications service equipment theft to local regional police.

Due to the increasing number of cases and their impact, the company coordinated with the Mobile Detective Unit of the Criminal Investigation Agency (Resmob Bareskrim) of the National Police to accelerate the investigation of these thefts.

“Resmob Bareskrim’s jurisdiction covers the entire territory of the Republic of Indonesia, so it is better placed to handle the investigation without jurisdictional limitations,” said Reza.

Head of the Mobile Detective Unit of the National Police’s Criminal Investigation Agency, Commissioner Teuku Arsya Khadafi, said the investigation began with a report from PT XLSmart regarding missing BTS modules in several Indonesian regions.

“The loss of the equipment caused telecommunications service disruptions, leaving thousands of customers unable to use mobile and internet services,” said Arsya.

In the case, police have named four suspects, consisting of two thieves, one fence, and one collector who also shipped the stolen goods.

According to Arsya, the perpetrators carried out their actions by posing as BTS tower installation technicians to dismantle and remove the modules.

As a result of the suspects’ actions, PT XLSmart suffered losses of around Rp5 billion, and telecommunications services in several Indonesian regions were disrupted.
