PT XLSMART Telecom Sejahtera Tbk (XLSMART) has begun utilising new spectrum obtained from the 700 MHz and 2.6 GHz frequency auctions to support the expansion of coverage and improvement of 5G service quality in Indonesia.

This step is aligned with supporting the government’s agenda to strengthen national digital connectivity and expand the benefits of technology for the public.

“The momentum of the 81st Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia serves as a reminder that advances in digital connectivity must ultimately deliver tangible benefits to society,” said XLSMART Director & Chief Regulatory Officer Merza Fachys in his statement in Jakarta on Saturday.

According to Merza, the availability of the 700 MHz and 2.6 GHz spectrum opens greater space for the telecommunications industry to jointly accelerate equitable connectivity and the development of the national 5G ecosystem.

The 700 MHz and 2.6 GHz spectrums have complementary characteristics. The 700 MHz spectrum enables wider network coverage and better signal penetration, while the 2.6 GHz spectrum provides greater capacity to support high data demand, especially in areas with dense digital activity.

The combination of the two enables the development of 5G with increasingly wider coverage as well as stronger capacity.

The utilisation of the new spectrum continues XLSMART’s 5G network development, which as of the first half of 2026 was present in 52 cities with support from around 15,000 5G BTS and national population coverage reaching 23 percent.

The spectrum strengthening is expected to support improvements in network capacity and quality while opening space for the gradual expansion of 5G to more regions.

“We appreciate Komdigi’s move to provide the 700 MHz and 2.6 GHz spectrum as an important foundation for the industry to jointly expand the benefits of quality connectivity to more Indonesians. XLSMART is ready to take part in supporting the government’s agenda to strengthen national connectivity and the digital ecosystem,” Merza added.

For businesses and industry, stronger network capacity also opens greater opportunities for the use of cloud, Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence (AI), automation, and various other digital solutions.

The use of these technologies is expected to improve efficiency and productivity while strengthening the competitiveness of various sectors of the Indonesian economy.

XLSMART views network expansion and spectrum availability as one part of the 5G development journey.

For the benefits of this technology to be felt more widely, a supportive ecosystem is needed, ranging from the availability of increasingly diverse and affordable 5G devices to the readiness of various sectors to adopt 5G technology.

“We hope that support and collaboration with Komdigi and all stakeholders will continue to be strengthened to build an increasingly mature 5G ecosystem, including encouraging the availability of more diverse and affordable 5G devices and presenting use cases relevant to the needs of society and industry,” Merza concluded.
