Xiaomi Watch 5 and Redmi Buds 8 Pro Officially Launched in Indonesia, Smartwatch Now Equipped with Google Gemini AI
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Besides unveiling its latest flagship smartphone line-up, Xiaomi also introduced two new AIoT devices, the Xiaomi Watch 5 and Redmi Buds 8 Pro, to Indonesia on Tuesday, 3 March 2026.
According to Karin A. Amalia, Xiaomi’s Ecosystem Product Marketing, the latest AIoT devices are designed to simplify users’ daily activities with a more practical and efficient experience.
Both the Xiaomi Watch 5 and Redmi Buds 8 Pro are aimed at supporting a modern lifestyle with connectivity integrated into the Xiaomi ecosystem, spanning productivity to entertainment.
The Xiaomi Watch 5 is positioned as a flagship smartwatch that relies on a premium design and support for the latest Wear OS operating system (Wear OS 6).
The system enables direct integration with a range of Google services, such as Google Maps, Google Calendar, Google Play, and Google Wallet for contactless payments.
Karin claims that the Xiaomi Watch 5 is Xiaomi’s first smartwatch equipped with Google’s Gemini artificial intelligence assistant.
In terms of design, the Xiaomi Watch 5 features a stainless steel chassis with sapphire glass on the front and back. The display measures 1.54 inches with a thin bezel.
One of the biggest upgrades is the gesture-based control system. Xiaomi has embedded an EMG (electromyography) sensor paired with an IMU and PPG.
This sensor works by reading electrical signals from the muscles when a finger or hand is moved, then translating them into commands.
In other words, users can answer or reject calls, mute alarms, or control photo capture on their phone, simply by performing simple gestures such as pinch or flicking a finger.
In the fitness segment, the Xiaomi Watch 5 supports a one-tap health check, i.e., analysis of the user’s exercise activity, as well as precise outdoor activity recording supported by dual-band GNSS for offline maps.
