Xiaomi has leaked the new rear screen design for the Xiaomi 18 Pro ahead of its launch in China later this month.

According to a report from Gizmochina on Tuesday (15/9) local time, in a teaser shared via Weibo, Xiaomi showcased a secondary screen on the back of the phone with the word “Generating” displayed in the centre.

This text suggests that the rear screen of the Xiaomi 18 Pro will likely feature artificial intelligence (AI) based functions. The screen is expected to be used not only for displaying wallpapers, widgets, or shortcuts, but also for displaying AI-generated content directly from the phone.

Xiaomi stated it would reveal further information regarding these features today, Wednesday. The company also highlighted the high level of usage of the rear screen on its predecessor, the Xiaomi 17 Pro.

In terms of design, the Xiaomi 18 Pro retains a horizontal rear camera module housing three Leica cameras. The rear screen is positioned in an area that covers a large portion of the camera module, meaning the back appearance remains similar to the Xiaomi 17 Pro.

According to information from tech leaker Digital Chat Station (DCS), Xiaomi has implemented several minor changes to the Xiaomi 18 Pro design. The frame around the rear screen will be made slightly thinner, while the position of the punch-hole front camera may be moved. The phone is also rumoured to feature a new physical button on the frame.

Previous leaks suggest that the rear screen of the Xiaomi 18 Pro will be larger and may include a privacy mode. This feature would allow users to restrict the screen’s visibility to prevent others nearby from seeing the content.
