Xiaomi prepares cheaper electric SUV than YU7
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Technology company Xiaomi is reportedly preparing a more affordable variant of the Xiaomi YU7 electric SUV, based on findings in the latest regulatory submission documents in China. Reported by Carnewschina on Thursday (9/4) local time, the information emerged from data submitted to local industry authorities, showing a new YU7 version with different specifications compared to the previously introduced model. In the documents, the new variant is believed to feature a simpler configuration, potentially reducing the selling price to be more competitive in the electric vehicle market. The new model retains the same exterior dimensions with a length of 4999 mm, width of 1996 mm, and height of 1600-1608 mm, with a wheelbase of 3000 mm. For energy storage, the vehicle is equipped with a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery supplied by CATL. The submission documents also reveal that the new model will offer more personalisation options, including a new 20-inch wheel design for consumers to choose from. Notably, this new entry-level variant has a kerb weight of 2200 kg, a reduction of 115 kg compared to the standard version’s 2315 kg. Xiaomi has not yet announced an official name, specific series, or launch date for this new CATL-powered YU7 variant. For reference, the current Xiaomi YU7 is priced between 253,500 yuan (36,700 USD) and 329,900 yuan (47,800 USD), or approximately Rp626 million and Rp816 million.
