Jakarta (ANTARA) - Xiaomi may be able to introduce smart privacy display technology in its latest generation of flagship smartphones and could become a competitor to Samsung.

Samsung introduced the privacy-focused screen technology in early 2026 through the Galaxy S26 Ultra, and Xiaomi is now believed to be bringing a similar feature to the Xiaomi 18 series.

As reported by Gizmochina on Friday (28/8), the news first emerged on the social media platform X. The initial idea is similar to Samsung’s, namely making the phone screen maintain its privacy and unable to be peeked at by others.

Each group can be determined by the user as to which ones trigger the privacy display and which do not. There is also an automatic mode that triggers the privacy display especially when the user accesses password entry, opens banking applications, and private messages.

Although the leaked information was accompanied by screenshot evidence of the privacy mode for the screen, Xiaomi itself has not confirmed it definitively.

It is believed that the smart privacy display will arrive via the Xiaomi 18 Pro and Xiaomi 18 Pro Max. Both are set to debut at the end of September 2026 and are among the first phones in the world to be powered by Qualcomm’s latest chip, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro.

It is still unclear how Xiaomi’s privacy screen feature works at the hardware level.

With its competitor Samsung via the Galaxy S26 Ultra, the company enables the screen to maintain privacy with special technology to reduce the viewing angle. They do not use software dimming or physical privacy filters to achieve this.
