Xiaomi 18 Pro features rear screen capable of running AI-generated applications

Xiaomi has revealed new capabilities for the rear screen of the Xiaomi 18 Pro series, which will not only function to display wallpapers or widgets but can also run simple applications created using artificial intelligence (AI).

According to a report by Gizmochina on Wednesday (16/9) local time, the feature is named ‘Versatile Back Screen’. Through this feature, users can create and run AI applications directly on the phone’s rear screen for specific needs.

An official teaser video illustrates various examples of applications that can be created on the Xiaomi 18 Pro’s rear screen, including an egg-cooking timer, water intake reminders, Pomodoro timers to help users maintain focus, English vocabulary learning tools, and recipe recommendation cards.

This feature is an evolution of the MiShare rear screen, which was first introduced by Xiaomi via the Xiaomi 17 Pro last year. Xiaomi stated that users interacted with application cards on the Xiaomi 17 Pro rear screen more than 4 million times daily and added over 3.5 million wallpapers every day.

The popularity of the rear screen feature is one of the reasons Xiaomi is expanding its capabilities for the Xiaomi 18 Pro.

Lu Weibing, Partner and President of Xiaomi Group, President of the Mobile Division, and Xiaomi Brand General Manager, stated that the needs for the rear screen vary for every user. He noted that Xiaomi is using a more advanced solution this year to expand the rear screen’s functionality so that it serves as more than just an additional display on the phone.

The Xiaomi 18 Pro has been confirmed for launch in September 2026. Xiaomi claims the model will represent one of the largest updates in the history of its smartphone lineup.

In addition to introducing the new rear screen feature, the Xiaomi 18 Pro is expected to bring improvements to performance, camera, battery life, and AI capabilities.
