Xiaomi 18 Pro confirmed to feature privacy screen technology

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Xiaomi has officially confirmed that its upcoming flagship smartphone, the Xiaomi 18 Pro, will be equipped with a privacy screen feature and will utilise the Super Pixel 2.0 display.

This new display will combine flagship-grade image quality with hardware-level privacy protection integrated directly into the screen.

Quoting Gizmochina on Monday (21/9) local time, the announcement was made directly by the company via its social media posts in China.

This news complements previous confirmations from the company that the smartphone will debut on 23 September 2026 at 19:00 local time, and that the series will utilise the M11 display material.

According to Xiaomi, the Super Pixel 2.0 display uses the M11 light-emitting system, a new green light-emitting material, a full RGB pixel arrangement, and built-in hardware-level privacy protection.

This new green material is claimed to increase lighting efficiency by up to 20 per cent, while the screen can reach a peak brightness of 4,000 nits.

Xiaomi also stated that the full RGB pixel layout helps maintain pixel clarity without loss of quality. The company claims this display can use almost the same amount of power as a 1.5K panel while providing clarity equivalent to a 2K screen.

Naturally, these conclusions are Xiaomi’s own claims, and the company has not yet provided detailed test results. Independent testing is required to see how the screen performs in real-world usage.

Regarding the privacy feature, Xiaomi has not yet explained in detail how this hardware-level privacy protection works.

However, leaks from August 2026 have already provided a glimpse of what the software side, named ‘Smart Privacy Display’, might look like.

For instance, banking applications could use a privacy mode while video applications do not. This feature could also activate automatically when the phone detects certain sensitive screens.

Leaked information suggests four types of content that would automatically trigger the screen privacy feature on the Xiaomi 18 Pro: password entry, payments, fund transfers, and messages.

Reports regarding a Samsung-style privacy screen on a Xiaomi flagship first emerged in June 2026. With Xiaomi’s latest announcement, this is the first time the company has confirmed that the Xiaomi 18 Pro series will feature hardware-level privacy protection.

Xiaomi is expected to reveal the full specifications, pricing, and availability of the Xiaomi 18 Pro series during its launch event.

However, it has not yet been confirmed whether the new display or its privacy features will be available on models sold outside of China.
