Xiaomi 18 Fold launches with 6,000 mAh battery and Xring O3 chip
Xiaomi has launched its new foldable phone, the Xiaomi 18 Fold, equipped with a 6,000 mAh battery and its self-developed Xring O3 chip.
According to a Gizmochina report on Monday (7/9), the phone measures 5.02 mm thick when opened and 10.68 mm when folded, and weighs 219 grams.
A flat frame surrounds the edges of the phone, which features rounded corners and an oval-shaped camera module on the back.
The Xiaomi 18 Fold has a 5.38-inch outer display and a 7.58-inch main screen with an aspect ratio of approximately 2:1.
The outer display is designed to be comfortable for one-handed use.
Xiaomi claims the Xiaomi 18 Fold’s keyboard is around 8 per cent wider than the keyboard on typical 6.9-inch phones.
The company says the Xiaomi 18 Fold is designed to withstand drops from heights of up to 1.2 metres.
This durability is achieved through the use of a new Dragon Bone hinge, a series-7 aluminium alloy frame, and Dragon Crystal Glass 3.0.
The Xiaomi 18 Fold, which is coated with a double layer of UTG glass to protect its folding screen, has reportedly undergone 492 stages of durability testing.
Compared with the previous generation, the multi-core CPU performance of the Xring O3 has improved by up to 60 per cent, whilst power consumption at low and medium loads has fallen by 25 per cent.
Its GPU performance has also increased by 85 per cent, with power consumption claimed to be up to 64 per cent lower.
The Xiaomi 18 Fold is fitted with a 6,000 mAh battery with an energy density of 920 Wh/L, supporting 67W wired fast charging and 50W wireless charging.
The phone is available in Nishino Red, Warm Gold-White, and Black colour options.
In addition, Xiaomi introduced a special Ceramic Special Edition variant, which uses a new silicon nitride ceramic material on the back.
Xiaomi claims the material is lighter yet stronger than the material used on the back of regular phone models.
The special edition is only available in a 16GB RAM and 1TB internal storage configuration. Xiaomi is also limiting its production to just 1,500 units.
The Xiaomi 18 Fold is currently only available in China, with prices starting from 10,999 yuan (approximately Rp28.8 million) for the 12GB/256GB variant, 11,999 yuan (around Rp31.5 million) for the 12GB/512GB variant, and 12,999 yuan (approximately Rp34.1 million) for the 16GB/512GB variant.
The top-spec variant with 16GB RAM and 1TB storage is priced at 14,999 yuan (around Rp39.4 million), whilst the Ceramic Special Edition model with a 16GB+1TB configuration is tagged at 15,999 yuan (around Rp42 million).
