Xiaomi 17 Series Officially Launched: A New Chapter in Strategic Co-creation with Leica for Enhanced Photography
The strategic partnership between technology brand Xiaomi and the legendary German camera manufacturer, Leica, is now entering a new and more progressive phase. After establishing a close partnership since 2022, the two companies are now deepening their collaboration through the development of the latest flagship line, especially the Xiaomi 17 Series, which focuses on superior photography.
Different from the previous period, Leica’s involvement in the development of Xiaomi’s flagship smartphones is now much more comprehensive. The focus of the partnership has transformed from a Joint R&D approach to a Strategic Co-creation Model.
Marketing Director of Xiaomi Indonesia, Andi Renreng, revealed that this step is a form of the company’s commitment to providing a consistent professional photography experience from upstream to downstream. According to him, Leica’s involvement is now significantly integrated in every stage of device development.
“If previously this partnership focused on a Joint R&D approach, now we are moving towards a Strategic Co-creation Model which increases Leica’s involvement in the development of Xiaomi smartphones significantly from upstream to downstream. This step reaffirms our commitment to delivering an increasingly consistent and integrated professional photography experience in Xiaomi’s flagship product series,” said Andi in a press release, Wednesday (25/2/2026).
This revolutionary collaboration has produced three main pillars that become a new standard in the world of mobile photography through the Xiaomi 17 Series:
The Leica’s distinctive humanistic photography philosophy is the main foundation in the development of the Xiaomi 17 Series camera system. Through the Essential Vision feature, every development of the camera system is designed so that users can re-experience the moments and emotions captured. This approach makes the Xiaomi 17 Series a device that not only offers visual sharpness, but also the ability to tell stories behind every shot.
Leica is known for having a distinctive and difficult-to-imitate color or tone. In the Xiaomi 17 Series, this authentic aesthetic is present with better quality through the support of the latest generation of HDR. This technology is able to produce richer details with a wider color range.
The HDR on the Xiaomi 17 Series is the result of a complex computational process that captures various layers of exposure in milliseconds, then stitches them together into a single photo with a balanced color composition. Users can see finer color gradations, where details in dark areas remain clearly visible without making bright areas overexposed.
The Xiaomi 17 Series features an advanced camera system that can be relied on for various genres of photography. With one compact device, users can get portrait photos with charming bokeh effects, street photography that tells stories, to landscape photos with vivid details.
This system is supported by a new Leica camera sensor that maintains image sharpness and natural color accuracy across various zoom ranges. Leica’s special optical configuration is also able to minimize noise optimally, so that the resulting photos remain clear in various situations, both indoors and outdoors. (Z-1)
