Xi-Trump Meeting Emphasises New China-US Strategic Relationship
Washington (ANTARA) - From the welcoming ceremony and official meetings to the state dinner, Chinese President Xi Jinping engaged in intensive interactions on Thursday (2ly/9) with US President Donald Trump, who acted as host, during his state visit to the US at the White House.
The two leaders conducted sincere and in-depth discussions, reaching a mutual understanding on many issues. This adds new substance to the constructive China-US strategic stability relationship and provides new strategic guidance for bilateral relations.
“I am ready to work with you to steer the giant ship of China-US relations on a steady course towards the future,” Xi stated during the welcoming ceremony at the White House.
Xi’s visit comes less than six months after Trump’s state visit to China in May, during which both presidents agreed to build a constructive relationship of strategic stability.
During his meeting with Trump at the White House, Xi called for this vision to be translated into action, urging the two great powers to find appropriate ways to coexist harmoniously.
Xi noted that both parties must strive to build a relationship characterised by cooperation as the primary foundation, moderate competition, manageable differences, and expected peace.
Xi stated that China and the US should, and are fully capable of, achieving mutual benefits and win-win outcomes through practical cooperation, helping each other succeed through healthy competition, managing differences by seeking common ground while respecting differences, and building peace by fostering mutual trust. This would ensure that the constructive China-US strategic stability relationship benefits both nations and the global community.
Meanwhile, Trump remarked that he and Xi are good friends who continue to maintain deep and close communication, expressing his confidence that US-China relations will be well-managed under the leadership of both heads of state.
The meticulous arrangements for Xi’s state visit, down to the smallest detail, reflect the significance of the visit to Trump.
After personally welcoming Xi at the airport the previous day, Trump hosted a grand welcoming ceremony at the White House.
Xi and his wife, Peng Liyuan, witnessed a performance by the US Marine Corps (USMC) alongside the US presidential couple. The ceremony included a military inspection, with US honour guards from various military branches performing traditional drills and instrumental music. Several fighter jets flew over the White House in honour of the Chinese and US presidents and their spouses.
Following the talks, the two presidential couples reunited for a state dinner. The room was adorned with red flowers and red linen, a choice which, according to White House statements, reflected the long-standing cultural significance of the colour in China.
“In less than half a year, the presidents of China and the US have conducted reciprocal state visits, making history in our bilateral relations,” Xi said during the state dinner hosted by Trump.
According to US expert Robert Lawrence Kuhn, the strongest signal to the world is that the leaders of the two most influential nations, despite being open competitors, can meet harmoniously and in a positive atmosphere, which remains the primary achievement.
