Xi to Trump: China and the US should be partners, not rivals
Istanbul (ANTARA) - Chinese President Xi Jinping told US President Donald Trump that the two countries should be “partners, not rivals” during their meeting in Beijing on Thursday (14/5).
In his opening remarks at the Great Hall of the People, Xi stated that China and the United States would both benefit from cooperation and suffer losses if they chose confrontation.
“We must help each other to achieve success, shared prosperity, and find the right path for major countries to build relations in this new era,” Xi said.
He noted that the two countries have “more common interests than differences,” adding that one country’s success is an opportunity for the other.
According to Xi, stable bilateral relations would also bring benefits to the world.
He expressed readiness to discuss various important issues for both countries and the international community with Trump.
Xi hoped that 2026 would be a historic year opening a new chapter in China-US bilateral relations.
