Xi Jinping to Visit US for Meeting with Trump This Week

Chinese authorities have confirmed that President Xi Jinping will conduct a visit to the United States this week to hold talks with President Donald Trump.

In a statement released by the Beijing government, as reported by AFP on Monday (21/09/2026), it was stated that Xi will be in the US from Wednesday (23/09) to Friday (25/09).

China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson, Guo Jiakun, stated that the two leaders will “conduct in-depth exchanges of views on key issues concerning China-US relations, world peace, and development.”

Guo also noted that China will “work with the US to enrich the substance of the constructive strategic stability between China and the US, strengthen dialogue and cooperation, (and) manage differences appropriately.”

Washington had previously announced that the leaders of the world’s two largest economies would meet this week. The meeting is expected to aim at easing tensions regarding trade, technology, and broader strategic issues.

According to a US official who requested anonymity, Trump will personally welcome Xi at Joint Base Andrews this Wednesday (23/09), before their meeting takes place the following day.

Speaking to reporters aboard the US presidential aircraft, Air Force One, on Sunday (20/09), Trump said: “I will discuss almost everything with him.”

Xi’s visit takes place as the trade war between China and the US continues to escalate, with the threat of military confrontation regarding Taiwan also looming.

Both nations have maintained a form of tariff truce for almost a year, but have yet to reach a permanent agreement.
