Xi Jinping says CPC has written the 'most magnificent epic' on its 105th anniversary

President Xi Jinping has declared that the Communist Party of China (CPC) has become the ‘most magnificent epic’ in the nation’s history during the party’s 105th anniversary celebrations in Beijing. Speaking at the Great Hall of the People before 3,000 party members on Tuesday, President Xi stated, ‘Over the past 105 years, our party has always adhered to its original mission of seeking happiness for the Chinese people and rejuvenation for the Chinese nation. We have written the most magnificent epic in the millennia-long history of the Chinese nation.’ The CPC was founded on 1 July 1921, at a time when China, according to Xi, was plagued by domestic problems and external threats, poverty, and weakness. The party now claims nearly 101.29 million members and over 5.43 million grassroots party organisations. ‘The relentless struggle over 105 years has fundamentally changed the future and destiny of the Chinese people. Today, the Chinese people have firmly grasped their destiny in their own hands and are marching forward with full confidence, independence, and strength towards a better future,’ Xi said. He urged party members to ‘further revive the spirit of diligence in completing work,’ warning that the nation’s development is in a period where strategic opportunities coexist with risks and challenges, and unpredictable factors are increasing. ‘We must always be prepared to face the great tests of strong winds, high waves, and even violent storms,’ he added. Xi, who also serves as General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee and Chairman of the Central Military Commission, called for promoting long-term prosperity and stability in Hong Kong and Macau through the implementation of ‘one country, two systems,’ ‘Hong Kong people governing Hong Kong,’ ‘Macau people governing Macau,’ and a high degree of autonomy. He further stressed the resolution to resolve the Taiwan issue and achieve the complete reunification of the motherland. ‘This is a historical task that our party has steadfastly pursued without change, as well as the common aspiration of all sons and daughters of China. We must deeply implement the party’s overall strategy for resolving the Taiwan issue in the new era and adhere to the One-China principle,’ Xi asserted. During the meeting, Xi awarded the ‘July 1 Medal,’ the CPC’s highest honour, to eight party members, including a grassroots mediator, a veteran soldier, a village official, a rural doctor, a community worker, an agricultural expert, and a posthumously recognised petroleum engineering expert.
