Xi Jinping says CPC has written the 'most magnificent epic' on its 105th anniversary
Beijing (ANTARA) - Chinese President Xi Jinping stated that the Communist Party of China (CPC) has become the “most magnificent epic” in the nation’s history during the 105th anniversary celebrations of the CPC in Beijing.
“For 105 years, our party has always adhered to its original mission of striving for the happiness of the Chinese people and the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. We have written the most magnificent epic in the thousands of years of Chinese history,” said President Xi during the event, which was attended by 3,000 CPC members at the Great Hall of the People, Beijing, on Tuesday (1/7).
The CPC was founded on 1 July 1921 when, according to Xi, China was beset by domestic issues and foreign threats, and was poor and weak. The CPC claims to currently have nearly 101.29 million members and more than 5.43 million grassroots party organisations.
“The unceasing struggle over the past 105 years has fundamentally changed the future and destiny of the Chinese people. Today, the Chinese people hold their destiny firmly in their own hands and are moving forward with confidence, independence, and strength towards a better future,” Xi stated.
Xi also called upon CPC members to “further revitalise the spirit of diligence in completing their work.”
“Our country’s development is in a period where strategic opportunities and risks and challenges coexist, while uncertain and unpredictable factors are increasing. We must always be prepared to face great tests in the form of strong winds, high waves, and even fierce storms,” Xi remarked.
Furthermore, Xi, who serves as the General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee and Chairman of the Central Military Commission, called for the promotion of long-term prosperity and stability in Hong Kong and Macau through the implementation of “one country, two systems,” “Hong Kong governed by Hong Kong people,” “Macau governed by Macau people,” and high levels of autonomy.
He also reaffirmed the commitment to resolving the Taiwan issue and achieving full national reunification.
“This is a historical task that our party will steadfastly fight for without change, and is the shared hope of all Chinese sons and daughters. We must deeply implement the party’s general strategy to resolve the Taiwan issue in the new era, adhering to the one-China principle,” Xi asserted.
During the meeting, Xi conferred the “1 July Medal”—the CPC’s highest honour—upon eight party members, including a mediator from a sub-party organisation, a veteran soldier, a village party official, a village doctor, a community worker, an agricultural expert, a mechanical engineering expert, and a petroleum engineering expert, who received the award posthumously.
The event was attended by six members of the Standing Committee of the CPC Central Committee Political Bureau, namely Li Qiang, Zhao Leji, Wang Huning, Cai Qi, Ding Xuexiang, and Li Xi, as well as Vice President Han Zheng.
