Xi Jinping Responds to US-Iran Ceasefire, This is China's Statement
China has responded to the United States-Israel ceasefire. The government of President Xi Jinping stated that they welcome this development, while underscoring its role in promoting the agreement between the two countries to halt hostilities for two weeks.
“China welcomes the announcement by the relevant parties regarding the achievement of a ceasefire agreement,” said spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mao Ning during the regular press conference on Wednesday (8/4/2026), without directly addressing Trump’s comments.
“We have repeatedly conveyed the efforts made by China,” she added, noting that Foreign Minister Wang Yi has made 26 phone calls with counterparts from relevant countries, while Beijing’s envoy to the Middle East has made “repeated trips” to the war-torn region.
“China will continue to work to ease the situation and achieve a complete end to the war,” she further stated.
Under the ceasefire, the US will suspend attacks on Iran for two weeks. In turn, Tehran will reopen the Strait of Hormuz, the oil transit waterway, according to Washington.
Israel stated that it supports Trump’s decision to suspend the bombing of Iran. However, it emphasised that the ceasefire “does not include Lebanon”.
Meanwhile, Iran has proposed a 10-point plan to secure the end of the war. Trump himself has signalled that “this could be implemented”.
