Xi Jinping Criticises Japan's Militarisation in Meeting with Trump

Moscow (ANTARA) - During a summit meeting with US President Donald Trump, Chinese President Xi Jinping criticised Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi over Japan’s militarisation efforts, according to the Financial Times citing sources. The newspaper reported that Xi Jinping strongly condemned Japan’s military build-up. US officials were reportedly surprised as the issue was not on the meeting’s agenda. Sources interviewed by the media stated that Xi’s criticism of Japan was the most prominent issue during the two-day meeting with US officials. In late April, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian stated that Japan’s current leadership policies increasingly resemble the actions of past Japanese militarists. Earlier, Kyodo News reported that the Japanese government has established an expert panel to prepare revisions to key national security documents by the end of this year.
