Xi Jinping calls for high-quality construction of China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway

Bishkek (ANTARA) - President Xi Jinping has called upon China and Kyrgyzstan to ensure the high-quality construction of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway line.

In his discussions with Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov, Xi described the railway as a primary transport route that carries the developmental aspirations of communities throughout the region.

Japarov stated that Kyrgyzstan is prepared to actively advance the development of the railway project, aiming to transform it into a “Steel Silk Road” for a new era and a new bond of friendship between the two nations.

The railway, which is currently under construction, was launched in late 2024. This project is a flagship initiative of the Belt and Road Initiative, serving as a strategic connector between China and Central Asia.

The route will originate in Kashgar, located in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region of north-western China, and traverse the mountainous terrain of Kyrgyzstan to reach Uzbekistan, according to Xinhua news agency.
