Beijing (ANTARA) - President Xi Jinping has reassured the Chinese public that the socialist system established over recent years possesses significant advantages compared to other mechanisms.

“Through long-term exploration and practice, the socialist system with Chinese characteristics has demonstrated immense advantages. The level of modernisation in China’s system and the capacity of state governance continue to increase, and the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation is unstoppable,” President Xi stated during the National Day reception at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on Wednesday.

Xi, who also serves as the General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC), delivered his speech at a red-themed reception attended by approximately 800 guests. The attendees included members of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee, high-ranking officials of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA), police representatives, leaders from China’s all-China federation of industry and commerce, honourary award recipients in Beijing, representatives of ethnic minorities, and dignitaries from Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, and the Chinese diaspora, as well as foreign ambassadors to China.

“As long as we remain firm in our convictions, hold fast to our goals, and move forward steadily step by step, success will surely belong to the great Communist Party of China, the great Chinese people, and the great People’s Republic of China,” Xi declared during the reception celebrating the 77th anniversary of the People’s Republic of China.

Xi Jinping stated that over the past 77 years, the CPC has united and led the people to achieve two major miracles: rapid economic development and long-term social stability, whilst realising the goal of the first centenary: building a moderately prosperous society in all respects.

“China’s economy continues to move forward amidst pressures, progressing towards renewal and quality improvement, demonstrating strong resilience and vitality. The efforts of the Party and the State have achieved new progress and results,” added Xi Jinping.

He called on the Chinese people to maintain the general principles of work to strive for progress while maintaining stability, fully and accurately implement the new development concept, accelerate the formation of a new development pattern, deepen reform and opening-up, and better coordinate development and security.

“We must firmly implement the ‘one country, two systems’ policy, ‘Hong Kong is ruled by Hong Kong people’, ‘Macau is ruled by Macau people’, and high degree of autonomy, supporting Hong Kong and Macau to better integrate and contribute to national development as a whole,” stated Xi Jinping.

Regarding the Taiwan issue, he urged the people to deepen exchanges and cooperation between both sides of the Taiwan Strait, firmly crack down on “Taiwan independence” separatist forces, oppose external interference, promote peaceful development of relations between the two sides, and advance the great cause of Taiwan’s reunification with China.

“We must firmly implement an independent and self-reliant peaceful foreign policy, promote the implementation of the four major global initiatives, and promote the building of a community with a shared future for mankind, to provide more certainty and positive energy for a world surrounded by change and turbulence,” added Xi Jinping.

At the event held in the banquet hall of the Great Hall of the People, the years “1949-2026” were prominently displayed in yellow against a large red curtain backdrop.

Prime Minister Li Qiang led the reception, which commenced at 17:30 local time.

Also in attendance were Zhao Leji, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress (NPC); Wang Huning, Chairman of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC); Cai Qi, Secretary of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee; Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang; Li Xi, Secretary of the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection; and Vice President Han Zheng.

Earlier in the morning, President Xi also led a wreath-laying ceremony on Martyrs’ Day at Tiananmen Square. This year marks the 105th anniversary of the founding of the CPC and the 90th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese Workers’ and Peasants’ Red Army.

China has celebrated National Day on 1 October since 1949, when Chinese leader Mao Zedong hoisted the national flag amidst approximately 300,000 soldiers during the ceremony establishing the Central People’s Government at Tiananmen Square, Beijing.

On 2 December 1949, a resolution passed in the fourth meeting of the Central People’s Government Committee stated: “From 1950, on 1 October of each year, the day shall be the National Day of the People’s Republic of China,” making it a national holiday.

Since 2000, the Chinese government has granted a holiday from 1–7 October by combining it with weekends. This period is known as “Golden Week” as it is the longest holiday period in China.
