X will suspend the earnings of content creators who upload armed-conflict videos created using artificial intelligence (AI) without including a label indicating that the content was AI-generated.

According to Engadget on Wednesday, X’s Head of Product Nikita Bier announced the policy change. He stated that first-time violators will be removed from the monetisation programme for 90 days, while repeat violators will be permanently removed from X’s revenue-sharing scheme.

The policy is limited in scope, applying only to creators enrolled in X’s monetisation programme and only to AI-generated armed-conflict videos. The rule does not apply to AI content in general nor to non-monetised accounts.

Nikita described the policy as necessary during times of war, even though the ongoing conflict between the United States, Israel, and Iran has not formally been declared a war.

The rapid development of AI-based video creation technology in recent times has meant that generative content is increasingly difficult for a significant portion of users to distinguish from real footage.

Separately, the platform is also testing a broader AI-labeling feature that allows users to tag posts as synthetic content, as first reported by Social Media Today. To date, X has not announced a schedule for the rollout of that feature.
