X Sets Official Minimum Age Limit of 16 Years for Indonesian Users
The digital platform X has set a minimum age limit for users in Indonesia at 16 years as part of its adjustment to Government Regulation No. 17 of 2025 concerning the Governance of Electronic System Administration in Child Protection (PP Tunas).
Alexander Sabar, Director-General of Digital Space Oversight at the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Kemkomdigi), stated that this change represents a concrete step by the global platform in meeting national regulatory obligations whilst strengthening child protection in the digital space.
“We appreciate the concrete action taken by X as a demonstration of its commitment to compliance whilst ensuring protection for children in the digital space,” said Alexander in a statement confirmed in Jakarta on Tuesday.
Through a letter dated 17 March 2026, X expressed its commitment to fulfilling the implementation requirements of PP Tunas, which specifically regulates high-risk social networking and media services, restricting access to children aged 16 years and above only.
Furthermore, beginning 27 March 2026, X stated it will implement its action plan to identify and deactivate user accounts that do not meet the applicable minimum age requirement.
“Kemkomdigi will conduct periodic monitoring of the progress of this process to ensure compliance with PP Tunas regulations is achieved,” said Alexander.
Kemkomdigi emphasised that other electronic system operators (PSE) who have received letters from Communications and Digital Minister Meutya Hafid should promptly provide formal responses and take concrete steps as undertaken and will be undertaken by X.
“Active and timely compliance from all PSE is a critical factor in creating a safe digital ecosystem for children,” Alexander stated.
