Jakarta (ANTARA) - A competitor to the social media platform X, which recently rebranded itself as Twitter, can no longer use that trademark following a decision by a federal court in Delaware, United States.

As reported by TechCrunch on Friday (4/9), the platform, founded by the startup Bluebird Operation, was originally launched under the name Twitter.now. They are now prohibited from using the name Twitter as their primary trademark.

Nevertheless, the judge found that X may have abandoned two trademarks related to the term ‘tweet’ and the bird logo, meaning both can still be used by the platform created by Bluejack Operation.

Operation Bluebird built the platform with the intention of reviving what existed on Twitter before it was acquired by Elon Musk and underwent massive restructuring, including the name change to X.

The effort to revive the old platform was initiated by lawyers Michael Peroff and Stephen Coates, the latter of whom was previously part of the Twitter trademark team.

The platform claims to have successfully gathered 172,000 people requesting accounts on the site prior to its official launch. This may have been achieved due to the familiarity associated with the Twitter brand among loyal users before its transition to X.

The court’s decision regarding the Twitter name controversy is not yet final.

United States District Court Judge Colm F. Connolly issued the ruling regarding X’s request for a preliminary injunction to stop Operation Bluebird from using several Twitter trademarks that have been abandoned since the rebranding.
