X Announces XChat for iPhone and iPad, a WhatsApp Competitor Chat App
Social media platform X (formerly Twitter) has officially announced a new app called XChat. This is a messaging (chatting) app similar to WhatsApp, Signal, Telegram, and others. On the app’s information page in the iOS App Store, it is stated that XChat has a number of common communication features found in general chatting or messaging apps. Some of these include sending text messages, making voice and video calls, and sending documents, photos, or videos. Users can also create group chats as well as edit and delete sent messages. For privacy features, X claims that XChat supports end-to-end encryption, meaning the content of conversations can only be seen by the users themselves. X also claims that the app will not track users’ locations. Despite these claims, some users on X, including @d_paulson203, have criticised the information on the official Apple Store page for XChat, stating that the app is not as private and secure as promoted. Previously, X’s owner, Elon Musk, had criticised WhatsApp’s privacy policy, though this was later refuted by WhatsApp. Currently, Elon Musk himself has not commented on the privacy criticisms of XChat. As compiled by KompasTekno from Mashable, the XChat app is scheduled to be available for iPhone and iPad devices on 17 April 2026. To use the app, users must have, register, and integrate their X account within the app. There is no information yet on whether the app will be expanded to the Android operating system. We shall wait and see.
