Local hopeful Wynne Prakusya rallied to oust top seeded Ryoko Fuda of Japan in the quarterfinals of the US$25,000 Jakarta ITF Women's Open here on Friday.

The fifth seed Wynne, who is ranked 277th in WTA Tour, defeated the world no. 175 Fuda 4-6, 7-6 (4), 6-2, to avenge her defeat in the Thailand Open last month.

Wynne is the only Indonesian left in contention in the tournament at the Hilton tennis courts in central Jakarta and will face Thai rival Montinee Tangphong in the semifinals on Saturday.

It was an even play in the first game until offensive-minded Fuda sped up her pace to seal the first set. Fuda continued the attack to quickly take a 2-0 lead in the second set.

Under heavy pressure from Fuda, Wynne refused to lay down. She tried hard to make the best of her serves while opting to slow down the rhythm of play.

She made up for her disappointing unforced errors with several aces and a rash of unchallenged short balls over the net. On the other side, Fuda started making mistakes as her offensive performance took its toll.

"My opponent was so stubborn, it was difficult for me to get a point," the 24-year-old Wynne said.

"I forced myself to attack Fuda in the first set but she was always able to return the ball, which caused more difficulties for me."

She said her change in tactics, which saw her develop her slices and improve her serves worked in her favor.

"Those helped me find my rhythm, although in the beginning of the second set, Fuda still looked very strong," she said.

"After I won the second set, I think Fuda was tired in the final set as her shots were no longer accurate."

Sixth seed Tangphong, whom Wynne is likely to come across again at the next Southeast Asian Games in the Philippines later this month, booked her semifinal place after easing past local wild card holder Lavinia Tananta 6-1, 6-1.

The last Indonesian to exit was Ayu Fani Damayanti, who lost to seventh seeded Chuang Chia-Jung of Chinese Taipei 6-7 (4), 0- 6.

Fourth seeded Kristina Czafikova of Slovakia secured the last spot in the semifinals after she sent home eight seeded Karoline Borgersen of Norway 6-2, 3-6, 7-5.
