WWF to disburse fund to fight fires

PALANGKARAYA, Central Kalimantan: The Worldwide Fund for Nature (WWF) is set to disburse some Rp 154 million to fight fires in Central Kalimantan, a provincial official said on Saturday.

Chairman of the province's Environmental Management and Preservation Agency Sjahrani Sajahrin said that the money was intended for fire fighters' equipment and medicine and to conduct forest patrols.

He added that WWF would also cooperate with non-governmental organizations and related institutions to monitor fires, especially in the Sebagau area, and to draft some policies on fire prevention. -- Antara
