Humanitarian organisation Wahana Visi Indonesia (WVI) is targeting to reach 25,000 victims affected by the earthquake in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) within three months, including 12,000 children who were victims of the 7.7 magnitude earthquake.

“During the first three months, WVI is targeting to reach 25,000 affected victims, including 12,000 children,” said WVI National Director Angelina Theodora in Jakarta on Tuesday.

On the first day of the disaster, the organisation distributed 100 shelter kits and set up evacuation tents for temporary housing for the community.

In addition to directly impacting thousands of local residents in seven districts, the Flores earthquake also caused physical damage to many homes, roads, and public facilities. Electricity supply and communication networks have also become unstable.

With a magnitude of 7.7, this earthquake is one of the largest since 1992, when a 7.8 magnitude earthquake shook Flores.

“This cooperation is needed for strategic steps in support to ease the burden of the survivors,” she said.

WVI is inviting the wider public to help children and communities facing the Flores earthquake by donating through BCA account number 478-3019 445 in the name of Yayasan Wahana Visi Indonesia, adding the code number 6 at the end of the donation amount.
