Indonesian Wushu Association (PBWI) Secretary-General Ngatino has requested Chef de Mission (CdM) of the Indonesian Team Todotua Pasaribu to facilitate a training camp programme in China to maintain the gold medal tradition at the upcoming 2026 Asian Games. The request was conveyed directly by Ngatino during an official visit by the Indonesian Team CdM to the Wushu Indonesia National Training Centre on Tuesday (21/7). Ngatino revealed that an overseas trial programme is an urgent necessity for athletes to hone their skills and competitive mentality. “So it can boost their spirit. However, for this year, there are no signs of that (training in China) yet,” Ngatino said. He explained that competitive simulation is crucial, especially for athletes competing in the sanda or combat category. According to him, the variety of sparring partners domestically is currently very limited, so athletes need foreign opponents to improve the quality of competition. “Sparring here is limited, there are no opponents, Sir. Over there (China), there are many, and when I go there, it is common for one fighter to face four opponents, changing one after another. This is what we need,” Ngatino elaborated. Not only for the combat category, Ngatino assessed that the training atmosphere in China is also greatly needed by athletes competing in the taolu or artistic category. The presence of top-tier athletes in that country is believed to significantly boost the motivation of the Red and White squad. “Then for Taolu, it is necessary for motivation, to see the top performers from China. Hopefully, this will be considered, sparring matches to train their mentality,” Ngatino said. “While there are still a few months left, if possible, please give us this opportunity,” Ngatino concluded.
