JAKARTA - The Ministry of Home Affairs’ (Kemendagri) step to instruct the exemption of Motor Vehicle Tax (PKB) and Motor Vehicle Ownership Transfer Fee (BBNKB) for electric vehicles has received a positive response from industry players. Wuling Motors, one of the electric vehicle manufacturers in Indonesia, views the policy outlined in Circular Letter (SE) Number 900.1.13.1/3764/SJ as a targeted strategic measure. Ricky Christian, Marketing Director of Wuling Motors, stated that this policy aligns with the government’s grand vision to accelerate the energy transition in the transportation sector. Although the central instruction is clear, Wuling is currently monitoring how each regional government will implement the regulation in the form of a Gubernatorial Decree. “We will also await developments from each region to gradually adjust our steps,” said Ricky. Wuling currently has a fairly comprehensive lineup of electric vehicles for the Indonesian market. Several models are already on the market, ranging from Air ev, Binguo EV, Cloud EV, Darion EV, to the newest model launched, namely Eksion EV. This tax exemption initiative is hoped to further stimulate public interest in switching to environmentally friendly vehicles, while strengthening national energy resilience amid fluctuations in global oil prices.
