Jakarta – The import of commercial vehicles from India for the Koperasi Desa Merah Putih programme has drawn attention in the domestic automotive industry, particularly given claims by several manufacturers who have invested in Indonesia about their production capabilities.

The vehicles in question are Mahindra Scorpio Pickup trucks imported by PT Agrinas Pangan Nusantara. Several units have been reported to have arrived in Indonesia and are being distributed to various regions to support agricultural transportation operations.

Additionally, Honda Motor Co., Ltd. has announced a major change in its global electrification strategy. The Japanese automotive manufacturer has decided to cancel the development and launch of three electric vehicle (EV) models that were originally planned to be produced in North America.

In response, Wuling Motors stated that it already possesses light commercial vehicles produced locally in Indonesia. Ricky Christian, Marketing Director of Wuling Motors, said the company has production facilities in Indonesia capable of manufacturing various vehicle models, including commercial vehicles such as pickup trucks.

Previously, Honda had targeted achieving carbon neutrality across all products and corporate activities by 2050. With major policy developments in the United States encouraging an accelerated transition to electric vehicles, Honda had shifted its strategy towards promoting EVs, particularly for small mobility vehicles such as passenger cars.

Wuling Motors has recorded sales of more than 4,000 units for its latest electrified model, the Wuling Darion, since its public introduction on 5 November 2025. Ricky Christian, Marketing Operation Director at Wuling Motors, stated that this achievement demonstrates positive consumer response to the electrified vehicles offered by the company.
