Wuling Highlights Indian Pick-up Imports, Calls for Optimisation of Local Products

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The government’s plan, through PT Agrinas Pangan Nusantara, to import trucks and pick-up vehicles from India for the operational needs of the Desa Merah Putih cooperative remains a topic of discussion in the national media this week.

The two commercial vehicle brands involved are Tata Motors and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. 

Despite the existence of a national automotive industry, the government is instead supplying the needs of the cooperative through imports.

Ricky Christian, Marketing Director of Wuling Motors, has also commented on this issue.

According to him, the automotive industry in Indonesia is actually capable of meeting the needs of PT Agrinas.

Ricky explained that there are currently many automotive manufacturers in Indonesia that produce light commercial vehicles.

In fact, these factories have supply chains supported by local labour.

Therefore, in terms of readiness, domestically produced pick-up products are already very mature.

“This is because there are currently several automotive manufacturers in the country that also market the light commercial segment, have supply chains and service networks, and are supported by competent local labour,” he said.

The pick-up manufacturers include PT Astra Daihatsu Motor, PT Isuzu Astra Motor Indonesia, PT Mitsubishi Motor Krama Yudha Indonesia, PT Suzuki Indomobil Motor, PT Sokonindo Automobile and PT SGMW Motor Indonesia.

Meanwhile, the PT SGMW Motor Indonesia factory in Cikarang, West Java, produces the Wuling Formo Max, which is Wuling’s flagship pick-up product.

The Formo Max pick-up is equipped with a 1,485 cc engine and is equipped with a 4-cylinder DOHC engine type.
