Wuling Eksion tested on journey from Jakarta to Yogyakarta: An evaluation of performance
Through a journey from Jakarta to Yogyakarta, Wuling Motors aims to prove the toughness and comfort of the Wuling Eksion during the ‘Exploring Family Journeys’ event held from 3–5 June 2026. The journey commenced in the Ampera area, South Jakarta. During the event, the ANTARA team experienced the vehicle as passengers in the second row, noting that heavy weekday traffic in the capital did not significantly impact travel comfort.
Various comfort features within the Wuling Eksion make travelling through congestion more pleasant, including the use of premium semi-leather seat materials designed to be heat-resistant for long-distance journeys. Wuling predetermined the route for participants, with eight Eksion units traversing different road characters to test the vehicle’s capabilities under real-world conditions.
The journey was divided into three stages over three days. On the first day, participants travelled from Jakarta to Purwokerto. The trip continued towards Wonosobo on the second day before concluding in Yogyakarta during the final stage. This route was selected because it presents diverse road conditions, ranging from motorways and urban areas to national roads and challenging mountain passes with steep inclines and sharp turns. These conditions are considered representative of typical family vehicle usage in Indonesia, which frequently encounters varied terrain in a single trip.
To provide a simulation closer to real-world conditions, each vehicle carried four participants along with luggage. Consequently, the testing focused not only on performance under ideal conditions but also while carrying loads typical of long-distance family trips. Throughout the journey, participants had the opportunity to test various available driving modes, including Eco, Normal, and Sport. Additionally, energy settings such as EV Max, EV First, Hybrid, and Fuel Priority were available, allowing the vehicle to manage the use of electric power and the petrol engine according to requirements.
The presence of such technology is a notable aspect to observe. Amidst the limitations of charging infrastructure in certain regions, plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV) offer flexibility as they can operate using both electricity and conventional fuel. During the media drive, Wuling Motors’ Product Communication Manager, Danang Wiratmoko, explained that the hybrid system in the Eksion is designed to manage power usage automatically based on driving conditions. “With the support of various driving modes and energy settings, the system can optimise the use of electric power and the petrol engine according to the needs of the journey,” said Danang.
