Wuling Delivers First EKSION Units in Indonesia as SAIC Group Hits 100 Million Global Vehicle Shipments
SAIC-GM-Wuling (SGMW) or Wuling officially delivered its first EKSION units to customers in Indonesia on May 9. This milestone coincided with SAIC Group’s historic achievement of recording 100 million vehicle shipments worldwide, with Wuling contributing significantly to this success. To date, Wuling has sold over 32 million units globally, solidifying its role as a key growth driver for SAIC Group over the years.
This success stems from a user-centric philosophy. Wuling’s ‘Caring Mobility for Everyone’ approach focuses on designing vehicles based on real consumer needs rather than simply transferring products between markets. The EKSION was developed through in-depth research into lifestyle, mobility, and family space requirements in Indonesia and Southeast Asia, resulting in spacious cabins, proven reliability, and practical features for daily use.
However, Wuling does not merely offer superior products. It recognises that a vehicle’s success also depends on the supporting ecosystem. Therefore, Wuling has adopted a different approach in Indonesia. Instead of merely assembling imported components, it has built an integrated domestic industrial ecosystem. Wuling has brought in 16 key component suppliers, established a production facility with a capacity of 120,000 units per year, and developed over 100 local suppliers. Manufacturing, supply chain, sales, financing, and human resource development operate within a connected system, creating a self-sufficient and sustainable new energy vehicle value chain in Indonesia.
This long-term strategy has borne fruit. Wuling is now the largest Chinese automotive brand in Indonesia by user base, with cumulative sales exceeding 180,000 units. This achievement also underpins Wuling’s regional expansion. With Indonesia as its operational hub, Wuling is strengthening the Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand (IMT) integration. The network currently covers Malaysia and Thailand and will soon expand to Vietnam, the Philippines, and other ASEAN nations. Wuling’s goal is not merely to distribute products across countries but to facilitate seamless flows of people, components, and economic value throughout the region through strong local market presence.
Building on the momentum of SAIC Group’s 100 millionth vehicle delivery, Wuling will continue to deliver reliable and practical vehicles for Southeast Asian and global consumers, while fostering trust among more families in the future.
