Wuling Darion PHEV Gaining Traction Among Consumers
JAKARTA — Consumer interest in plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) variants of the Wuling Darion is on the rise. The contribution of PHEV sales now reaches approximately 15–20 per cent of total model sales, although pure electric vehicle (EV) variants continue to dominate.
According to Ricky Christian, Marketing Operations Director at Wuling Motors, Darion sales are still predominantly driven by the EV model.
Despite EV maintaining its dominance, Ricky noted that PHEV’s contribution to Darion sales is gradually increasing compared with previous periods.
“Whereas the contribution was around 10 per cent before, it has now risen to approximately 15 to 20 per cent. So there are also consumers who are beginning to consider using a PHEV,” Ricky stated.
For context, the Darion is an electrified MPV available in two powertrain options: EV and PHEV.
The EV variant is equipped with an electric motor producing around 150 kW, equivalent to 201 horsepower, with a 69.2 kWh battery capable of achieving a range of approximately 540 kilometres on a single charge.
Meanwhile, the PHEV variant combines a 1.5-litre petrol engine with an electric motor and a battery of approximately 20.5 kWh. This system enables the vehicle to travel up to around 125 kilometres in pure electric mode, with a combined total range exceeding 1,000 kilometres when the petrol engine is engaged.
