WSJ: Trump Considering Ending War with Iran

Istanbul (ANTARA) - US President Donald Trump is personally considering ending the war with Iran, even as the Pentagon quietly extends troop deployments in the Middle East, according to a Wall Street Journal (WSJ) report on Wednesday.

The WSJ reported that Trump has held discussions with senior advisers regarding the issuance of a statement concerning the “end of the war with Iran,” a move reportedly supported by the president.

Trump believes that applying intense economic pressure will force Tehran to dismantle its nuclear programme or lead to the collapse of its government.

The United States launched Operation Economic Outcast last week, targeting Iran’s primary economic sectors, including oil, shipping, aviation, gold, technology, and digital assets.

However, despite these private discussions, the Pentagon has extended troop deployments, signalling that the conflict could persist “until next year.”

The military is maintaining 50,000 troops and 19 warships, including two aircraft carriers and 13 guided-missile destroyers, to provide operational “flexibility” to the president.
