Wrong-Way Motorcyclist Who Caused Fatal Accident in Bogor Named as Suspect
Police have named a motorcyclist with the initials AF, who was riding against the flow of traffic and caused a fatal accident in Cibinong, Bogor, West Java, as a suspect. One person died as a result of the accident.
“For the actions of suspect AF, Article 310 paragraph 4 of Law Number 22 of 2009 on Road Traffic and Transport has been applied, under which a driver whose negligence causes an accident resulting in a fatality,” said Bogor Police Traffic Unit Chief Inspector Afif Widhi Ananto on Monday (23/2).
In addition, the suspect has been charged under Article 312 of Law 22 of 2009, which covers drivers who deliberately fail to stop, render assistance, or report an accident to the authorities.
“The offence carries a maximum sentence of three years’ imprisonment,” he said.
Previously, the Law Enforcement Unit of the Bogor Police Traffic Division had apprehended motorcyclist AF, who was riding against traffic and triggered the fatal accident in Cibinong, Bogor, West Java. The motorcyclist was undergoing intensive examination at the unit.
“Investigators have apprehended the driver who was riding against the flow of traffic. He is currently still undergoing examination,” said Bogor Police Traffic Unit Chief Inspector Afif Widhi Ananto in a written statement on Sunday (22/2).
Afif said the motorcyclist AF was apprehended by officers at the scene of the incident. The Law Enforcement Unit of the Bogor Police Traffic Division is conducting a further investigation into the accident.
The incident occurred at 03.00 local time in the early hours of the previous day. A number of witnesses and supporting evidence, including CCTV footage, are being gathered for examination.
“Investigators are collecting evidence, including efforts to obtain CCTV recordings. Meanwhile, the vehicles involved in the accident have been secured at the Traffic Law Enforcement office,” said Afif.
