Writing contest winners named
Dian Purwitasari, a student of SMA 34 Jakarta, has won the grand prize in the annual writing competition held by the Lions Club and the United Nations Information Center.
The center reported yesterday that the competition was held along with a variety of other activities in observance of UN Day, Oct. 24.
The theme of this year's competition: Melalui Keluarga Sejahtera Tercipta Sumber Daya Manusia yang Berkualitas (The Creation of Better Human Resources through Prosperous Families) provided the young participants an opportunity to express their personal interpretations of the role of family as the foundation for child development.
A panel of five judges selected Dian Purwitasari's works as the best out of some 400 entries received by the organizers from throughout the country.
Her grand prize includes a trip to London, a typewriter, a trophy and a savings account with Rp 300,000 in it.
The judges selected Dian Maulina Syani of SMA Islam Al-Azhar Kemang in South Jakarta and Hardy of SMUK Sang Timor in West Jakarta as runners-up. (hhr)
