Writers and Musicians Can Protect Copyright Through POP-HC System
Ternate — The North Maluku Regional Office of the Ministry of Law has announced that copyright registration can now be carried out quickly and simply through the Automatic Copyright Application Approval (POP-HC) service.
Head of the North Maluku Ministry of Law Regional Office, Budi A Situngkir, speaking in Ternate on Tuesday, expressed his appreciation for the POP-HC service, which provides ease of copyright registration for the public.
He noted that the copyright registration process can be completed in as little as five minutes provided the required documents are complete. This presents a significant opportunity for book authors, academics and artists such as musicians in North Maluku to protect their creative works.
"North Maluku has seen an increase in copyright registrations, particularly from writers and musicians. This is a positive trend, providing the widest possible opportunity for all members of the public to protect their copyrights and obtain economic benefits from their works," he said.
He explained that the requirements for copyright registration through POP-HC include the identity of the creator and/or copyright holder, a declaration of ownership of the work, and a sample of the work to be registered according to its type.
For individual applicants, identification in the form of a national identity card (KTP) is required, whilst legal entities must attach their establishment documents.
"All documents are prepared in digital format for upload to the DJKI system without the need to visit the regional office. Nevertheless, should any difficulties arise, the North Maluku Ministry of Law Regional Office can also provide free assistance," he said.
The copyright registration procedure begins with creating an account on the DJKI copyright registration system (hakcipta.dgip.go.id). Applicants then complete the application form online, upload the required documents, and make payment of the registration fee in accordance with the applicable provisions. Applicants are charged Rp200,000 for each application.
Once all stages have been completed, the POP-HC system automatically processes the application and issues a Copyright Registration Certificate that can be downloaded by the applicant.
Copyright protection follows the declarative principle, whereby legal protection arises automatically from the moment a work is created. Registration serves as initial proof of ownership, and although it is not mandatory, it is highly important as a means of evidence and a preventive measure against plagiarism and copyright infringement that could harm creators.
Through the POP-HC service, the DJKI invites all creators and creative industry practitioners to take advantage of the ease of copyright registration as a form of awareness and responsibility in protecting intellectual property in Indonesia.
Meanwhile, Director General of Intellectual Property Hermansyah Siregar affirmed that POP-HC was specifically designed to meet the creative industry's need for fast and accessible services. Applicants do not need to visit the DJKI office or regional offices to access this service.
"POP-HC is designed so that copyright registration can be carried out efficiently and completed in a short time. We have introduced this service to support the creative industry so that it can more quickly protect its intellectual property and have legal certainty over the works produced," he said.
