Worsening situation

Worsening situation

From Jurnal Indonesia

I'm concerned that the economy is worsening. Many factors support my concern. After current developments, many people have voiced disappointment with President Abdurrahman "Gus Dur" Wahid's administration. This disappointment will certainly give rise to political opposition and clashes, until eventually there will be no political stability. Economic instability will follow. And again, needy people will fall victim.

For example, after Thursday's announcement of the new Cabinet, many criticized the Cabinet. The criticism is natural as the Cabinet composition doesn't comply with people's desires. People want a Cabinet composed of professionals. But, factually, Gus Dur prefers to choose the people closest to him as ministers.

So, the appointment of the ministers is not objective but subjective according to Gus Dur's desire. Though the Cabinet has not been installed yet, many people are pessimistic regarding its performance. The most regrettable thing is that the unfortunate situation will impede economic recovery.

That's why I predict the economy won't get better but will worsen. The problem is there is an absence of political stability due to political antagonism and clashes which always happen. The political elite must stop quibbling. Remember, we are in the reform era, why do you keep bickering? Don't you have any pity for the average citizen?
