World's first: Indonesia implements Roblox Kids and Roblox Select for under-16s

Jakarta (ANTARA) – The online gaming platform Roblox has officially announced that Indonesia is among the first countries in the world to implement age-based Roblox accounts for users under 16. The arrangement is administered via Roblox Kids accounts for users aged 5-12 and Roblox Select accounts for users aged 13-15. ‘The launch of Roblox Kids and Roblox Select in Indonesia today helps ensure that Indonesian children can only access content appropriate for them from their very first game, while also giving parents greater control,’ said Roblox Chief Safety Officer Matt Kaufman in a statement received on Tuesday. Additionally, the implementation of accounts for under-16s is Roblox’s commitment to comply with PP Tunas, a special regulation in Indonesia for child protection in the digital space. Roblox combines age verification, age-based account settings, content rating, ongoing moderation, and parental controls into a single protection framework for younger users. After launch, under-16 players will still be able to access their favourite games after age verification is completed, while there is no change for users aged 16 and over. Besides Indonesia, the rollout of Roblox Kids and Roblox Select also began in New Zealand, Australia, and the Netherlands. A broader global rollout will continue next month. Matt said they are proud to support Indonesia in creating a safe and healthy digital space for young users. ‘Indonesia is one of the nations at the forefront of child protection, and we are proud to bring a positive digital space for learning, creating, and playing for millions of players from Indonesia’s diverse and enthusiastic community,’ Matt said. As for details on Roblox Kids accounts, these accounts set users’ ages at 5-12 in Indonesia. They can only access games with a content label of ‘Minimal’ or ‘Mild’ that have passed Roblox’s screening process. All communication features are automatically disabled. Parents can block or permit particular games. The blue background is the hallmark of Roblox Kids accounts. For Roblox Select, the account will regulate users aged 13-15 in Indonesia. Users with this account can also play games with the ‘Moderate’ label. There are communication features that can be enabled but can only be used with other players approved by a parent. Finally, there is a slight visual difference with regular Roblox accounts.
