World's Chip King to Bring Chip Curriculum to Indonesia, Airlangga's Response
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto has revealed the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between President University and National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU) on Monday (27/4/2026) at the Coordinating Ministry for the Economy’s office in Jakarta.
“The signing with President University has taken place. The MoU concerns education from a university that has been providing semiconductor education in Taiwan,” he said when met by the media at the Coordinating Ministry for the Economy’s office in Jakarta on Monday (27/4/2026).
He explained that the signing aims to design a semiconductor-related curriculum and bring it to Indonesia. For context, Taiwan is the global centre of the semiconductor industry, controlling more than 50% of the world’s chip production market share.
Airlangga described the step as a demonstration of the government’s serious commitment to developing the semiconductor industry in Indonesia, especially following the agreement with British semiconductor company Arm.
Currently, Airlangga said the focus is on developing cooperation between President University and NTNU first, which has academic experience with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC).
The agreement, according to Airlangga, is a private business-to-business (B2B) arrangement between the two universities.
“Because the entire mechanism is private B2B. They have several curricula, some lasting a year or more, including degree and non-degree programmes,” he added.
