World Today: UN Condemns Death of Indonesian Peacekeeper in Israel-Hezbollah Conflict

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has condemned the death of an Indonesian peacekeeper in the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah. Another Indonesian peacekeeper was seriously injured in the same incident, Guterres stated on X. “My deepest condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the fallen peacekeeper, and to Indonesia. I wish a full and swift recovery to the injured troops,” Guterres said. “This is just one of a number of recent incidents that have endangered the safety and security of peacekeepers.”I call on all parties to uphold their obligations under international law and to ensure the safety and security of @UN personnel and property at all times.” Hundreds Dead Due to Floods in Kenya Heavy rain and flooding over several weeks have killed 108 people in Kenya. Australian Fugitive Shot Dead Police have shot dead a man believed to be fugitive Dezi Freeman after a three-hour gun battle in the state of Victoria, Australia, this morning (30/03). Victoria Police have not officially confirmed the man’s identity, but ABC understands he is Dezi Freeman, the fugitive from the fatal shooting of two Australian police officers last August. Freeman was shot at a property near Walwa, almost 200 kilometres from the police shooting location in Porepunkah. Victoria Police Chief Commissioner Mike Bush said a “very formal identification process” must be carried out before the man’s identity can be confirmed. Former Nepalese Prime Minister Arrested Nepal Police have arrested former prime minister Khadga Prasad Oli in an investigation into whether he was negligent in preventing dozens of deaths during anti-corruption protests last September. Oli was arrested on Saturday (28/03) following the inauguration of rapper-turned-politician Balendra Shah as prime minister on Friday (27/03). This is also based on a recommendation from a panel investigating the violence during the protests that he should be prosecuted for negligence. His former home minister, Ramesh Lekhak, was also arrested. Last September, 76 people died during the police crackdown on protests led by Generation Z, which led to Oli’s resignation.
