World Today: Japan Ensures Normal Fuel Supply to Australia
You are reading World Today, a summary of selected news from various countries that occurred in the last 24 hours. Today’s opening information for Monday, 6 April 2026, comes from Australia.
Japan ensures Australia receives normal petrol supply
Fuel will continue to flow from Japan to Australia based on assurances given during recent talks between the two countries.
This assurance was mentioned as Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi plans a trip to Australia to discuss conditions in the Strait of Hormuz and petrol shortages.
The Japanese PM’s visit to Australia is scheduled as world leaders seek to strengthen fuel security and supply networks.
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has not yet confirmed the visit.
China’s satellite imagery helps Iran
US intelligence states that the publication of AI-using satellite imagery by a Chinese company of a US base in the Middle East has helped Iranian forces identify targets.
ABC has learned of this intelligence information from sources within US defence, who say the imagery endangers lives.
Chinese AI and geospatial software company MizarVision, in which the Chinese government holds a small stake, published detailed satellite imagery with labelling data for several US military sites ahead of and during the Iran war.
According to sources within the US Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA), the Pentagon believes Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) used the satellite imagery to help target sites.
“This is an example of a Chinese company, which we believe with malicious intent, providing intelligence on an open-source platform that informs missile and drone targeting protocols,” a DIA source told ABC News.
Three TNI soldiers fall, SBY urges UN to stop UNIFIL assignment
Indonesia’s fifth president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono regrets the deaths of three TNI soldiers in Lebanon and states that peacekeeping personnel are not armed and are not given a combat mandate under Chapter 6 of the UN Charter.
SBY also questions the location of the peacekeeping duties, which should be on the blue line or in the blue zone area, which is not a combat or war zone area.
“Now, in reality, what was initially around the Blue Line is now in a war zone, where battles between Israel and Hezbollah rage daily. It is even reported that Israeli forces have advanced 7 km from the Blue Line,” said SBY.
“With this argument, the UN in New York should immediately take a firm decision and steps to stop the UNIFIL assignment or relocate their positions outside the current burning battlefield,” he added.
SBY also urged the UN Security Council to convene immediately and issue a firm and clear resolution.
Kanye West faces cancellation of Wireless Festival performance in London
This follows Pepsi withdrawing as the main sponsor without giving a clear reason for its decision.
Other sponsors, listed as partners on the official website, are urged to follow suit, including Budweiser and PayPal.
Kanye, who officially shortened his name to Ye in 2021, has tried to distance himself from controversies of recent years after expressing admiration for Adolf Hitler.
He released a song titled Heil Hitler in 2025, after advertising the sale of swastika-emblazoned T-shirts on his website, and launched a series of antisemitic posts on X, including “death con 3 on JEWISH PEOPLE”.
The 48-year-old man apologised in January through a full-page advertisement in The Wall Street Journal, citing his behaviour as resulting from untreated bipolar disorder.
In a statement published by The Sun on Sunday newspaper, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer said antisemitism in any form is “disgusting and must clearly be responded to firmly wherever it appears.”
