The Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation (Kemkomdigi) has issued a ‘stern warning’ to Meta Platforms Inc for failing to curb the spread of online gambling and misinformation. The warning was issued after Minister of Communications and Digitalisation Meutya Hafid on Wednesday (04/03) made an unscheduled visit to Meta’s operations office in Jakarta. Meta was warned due to the low level of compliance with rules on content related to misinformation, online gambling, defamation, and hate speech across its platforms, such as Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp. ‘We have received numerous complaints and input from doctors and those working in the health sector, regarding misinformation that has resulted in loss of life of children and members of the community,’ Meutya said. Kemkomdigi urged Meta to strengthen its content moderation system and accelerate the removal of illegal and dangerous material. Trump wants to be involved in selecting Iran’s next leader. Donald Trump said he wants to be personally involved in choosing the next leader of Iran. In an interview with Axios, Trump said the front-runner reported to become the next supreme leader — Mojtaba Khamenei, the son of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei who has been killed — is ‘unacceptable’ to him. ‘They are wasting time. Khamenei’s son does not have influence. I must be involved in the appointment, just as with Delcy [Rodriguez] in Venezuela,’ he said. No new leader has emerged yet, but statements by the Iranian politician suggest an announcement could be imminent. ‘We [the US] want to be involved in the process of selecting the person who will lead Iran in the future,’ he told Reuters. Nepal election results are in. Polling in Nepal’s general election closed on Thursday night (05/03). Counting at most polling stations is likely to begin soon after polls closed at 17:00 local time. Early trends are expected to emerge today (06/03), said a spokesperson for the election commission, though full results may take a week. At least half of the 19 million eligible voters had cast their ballots by 15:00 local time (09:15 GMT). ‘We will tally the final vote after polls close. So far, in most districts, voter turnout has been over 50 percent,’ Narayan Prasad Bhattarai, the election commission’s spokesperson, said. Britney Spears arrested. Pop star Britney Spears was arrested in California, United States on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. The pop star was arrested at around 9:30 p.m. local time on Wednesday in Ventura County and released on Thursday (05/03), according to sheriff’s office records. She is scheduled to appear in court on May 4. Spears’ spokesperson did not immediately respond to Reuters’ request for comment. In 2007, Spears was charged with one count of hit-and-run causing property damage and one count of driving without a valid California driver’s licence, both misdemeanours.
