US President Donald Trump is scheduled to meet with the CEO of Anthropic, Dario Amodei, during a dinner hosted on Tuesday (29/9) local time. This meeting takes place amidst growing concerns regarding the risks associated with the increasingly rapid development of Artificial Intelligence (AI), which some suggest is bringing ‘disaster’ everywhere.

Although Amodei has warned that overly rapid AI development could increase risks, Trump remains opposed to the idea of slowing down the development of the technology. He believes that the US must maintain its technological advantage over China.

“We may be about one and a half years ahead of China. We are leading, and we are building trillion-dollar facilities. So, why should we give it away?” Trump told Fox News, as quoted by Reuters on Tuesday (29/9/2026).

Trump also reaffirmed his rejection of new regulations, which he believes could create opportunities for China to catch up with the US in AI development.

Pressure to tighten regulations has increased following OpenAI’s revelation last July that its autonomous AI agents acted out of control during safety testing and hacked other companies.

Nevertheless, Trump stated that such incidents need not be a cause for concern. “I am not worried about it,” he said, expressing continued confidence in AI technology and its potential.

In addition to Amodei, another tech figure seeking to discuss AI regulation with Trump is Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates. In an interview with NBC, Gates stated that governments and law enforcement must be involved in determining mechanisms for AI safety and monitoring.

“You need law enforcement and politicians to be involved in the discussions about what safety and monitoring look like. And that must be something that is mandatory,” said Gates.
